I have two medium hair cats that are almost 10 years old, a male and female. We took them to the vet last week for shots and check ups. Lucky weighs 12lbs and Prissy is at 9.5lbs. I've always been a little concerned about their weight, but the vet said that since they're big cats, their weight is fine, but don't let them gain any more and that yes, they would be okay to lose a pound or two but be careful with Prissy (9.5lbs).
So while struggling to get rid of all that shedding cat hair off of them, we're trying to come up with ways for them to diet. They both share a food bowl so we can't really tell who eats the most. We don't have money for a cat tree to try encourage some exercise, so does anyone have any ideas what we could do? They're not yet 10 and so they still have a long life ahead of them and we want to help them out.

Tommy's been with us for about 3 months now. He was fostered in a house with 15 other cats before ending up "on display" at a PetSmart nearby. He'd been adopted and returned once before he found the right humans - us! We figure Tommy's about 2 1/2 years old.
We also have another cat, Mietze, who we think is about 3 1/2 years old. Where Tommy is a goofball who looooved to be petted and loved on, Mietze is our little Princess, so beautiful you just want to sit and look at her stunning beauty - but please don't touch! ;) (We think she had very little human contact before she came to us at around 8 months old)
Mietze, being the Princess she is, likes to nibble at her food. Tommy, being the boy he is, likes to gobble food down. Just about any food. His, hers, ours... it's all Nom nom nom-able. (Except dry food, which he only eats when he's actually hungry...)

Thankfully I had already removed Mietze's food bowl, so he didn't get rewarded for his hard work.

What should I ask the vet for? I don't want him to charge me for another "check up" visit, like he did when he checked her infection from her spaying. Literally checked the cut and charged me another $40. What meds do they provide? Can anybody suggest some meds?

I'm interested in, one day in the far future, adopting from a cattery. For the breed I want, I've found about 4 in Chicago, the closest location, and it's about four hours away from where I live currently. Problem would be, I wouldn't know which to choose from. Certainly hit and miss can't be the way to go, and I'm sure I wouldn't want to visit each individual one.
Do they tell you about the personality of the kitten you want? Or do you choose by coloring and figure out the personality on the day of? How exactly did you know your kitten was the one for you?
I've got this idea in my head that I want a generic ragdoll. I mean, I don't mind personality variation, but cats can be antisocial if they want to be, and it'd be really disappointing to reserve and adopt the black sheep of the litter, the one that decides she doesn't like to interact with people as much as her siblings.
So that's where I'm confused. I have no cats but for legalities, I'll post an old picture of my siblings' kitten, Zoe.
This was her at less than four months...I'm sure she's bigger now. I haven't seen her in a while. She was a stray, and she's probably my reason to want a ragdoll. I love Zoe, but she's aloof, like most former-ferals turn out to be. Sure, she snuggles up for a nap and loves a hug every once in a while, but she certainly doesn't need the attention, and hates being scooped up by the kids.
